HORSE Poker Calculator Enhances Equity Percentages
While there are many
poker calculators available in the market, the
HORSE Poker Calculator is the only one that provides odds in various situations in five different games. For those of you not familiar with HORSE, it's a Mixed Game that includes Hold'em, Omaha 8 or Better, Stud, Stud 8 or Better, and Razz.
Recently, the HORSE Poker Calculator team released Version 1.2, improving its already unique software. Their approach is to introduce updates with smaller changes and additions rather than wait a longer time to release a larger update.
The most recent update included the following changes:
1. Added a stats pop-up screen for Omaha, Razz, and 8 or Better that shows Equity Percent by Hand Type and the number of Wins + Ties or Win High + Tie High or Win Low + Tie Low for each hand.
2. Changed the Razz and Hold'em pop-up stats screen to also show Equity Percent as opposed to Win + Tie Percent.
Omaha 8 or Better and Stud 8 or Better are split pot games where at times there are qualifying low hands in addition to the high hand. This update had to carefully consider when only a high hand might appear and when the pot might be split to properly account for true hand equity.
Since I love to play all of the games of HORSE, I was excited to try this out. I played around with the Omaha calculator, which displays odds for Omaha and Omaha 8 or Better. I went ahead and touched the box for Hi/Lo and selected Ac-2d-3s-4h for one player and Ah-Ad-Kh-Kd for another player.
These hands are pretty close, with the wheel having 40.6% equity compared to the other hand's 59.6% equity. After touching the box, I was able to drill down further on the first hand to see that when only achieving a hand that does nothing but hit the low, there was 27.14% equity, which is the majority of the overall equity of this hand.
Another cool facet of the pop-up is that it also tells you how many potential outcomes were calculated to provide the results. I was shocked to see that 1,086,008 different outcomes were calculated in the above example. Although one might think it would take a few minutes to calculate so many outcomes, the results were presented in a matter of seconds.
The HORSE Poker Calculator is currently available on iOS devices such as an iPod Touch, iPad, or iPhone. Having an informative and fun tool on my iPad is perfect for when I am on the go or just want to quickly hash out my equity after a hand was played. I fully recommend the HORSE Poker Calculator. The price is only $0.99, which has to be a big bang for your buck.
