888 Poker Mobile Full Review
With the growing number of people owning smartphones and tablets, more and more poker players are looking at what options they have to play online poker through their mobile device. If you are a casual poker player, you may consider downloading 888 Poker’s mobile application if it is available in your area.
Downloading 888 Poker’s application is very simple, but it is not yet rolled out to all areas of the world where you can play real money online poker on 888[oker from your computer. The basic table functionality is the same as playing on your computer, with big action buttons and an easy-to-use bet slider. Table chat is also available, but this can be tricky to do on your mobile device. As long as you have a steady internet connection, the game play is smooth and the layout makes it difficult to hit the wrong button and make a mistake.
There are no tournaments available on 888 Poker Mobile. Since a good number of poker players considering playing via their mobile phones like being able to switch devices in the middle of a tournament in case they need to leave the comfort of their own home, it is a bit of a disappointment this is not currently available. There is also only a limited range of cash games and sit and gos available, not the full slate of games you would see online. Still, 888 Mobile boasts plenty of games:
It appears that the 888Poker mobile application was designed with the casual player in mind as opposed to the true poker grinders out there, as there is no multi-tabling available. If you enjoy playing one table at a time on the go, however, 888 Poker Mobile is for you.
888 Poker’s mobile client also does not include web cam tables. This is a pretty cool feature that sites like PokerStars do not have for when you are playing on your computer. Since there is no multi-tabling functionality, it would seem like a perfect extension for your tablet or phone since many mobile devices contain a front facing camera. It appears this would have been an excellent way to attract casual players while also differentiating the site from others out there.
You do not yet have the ability to take notes on opponents or view your notes you have taken on other players from your computer. There is also no way to find a player who is logged into 888 Poker. I do not consider this to be a major downside, but since this client seems to be designed for the more casual player, it would have been nice to have a way to see how a friend is doing. Here's a screen shot of the 888 Poker Mobile table:
When trying to use cashier functions, a fully functional Web-based cashier opens up for use. While I do not feel it is important to use of a cashier from your mobile device, this is a handy feature if you want to quickly load funds while on a road trip to enjoy a little poker. Good job to 888 for including it in the Mobile client.
Another difference in playing on a mobile client versus your computer is that the third-party software you are used to playing with does not work. You will also need to figure out a way to import the hands later into your database if you use a HUD like the one you'll find in PokerTracker 4 or Holdem Manager 2.
If you are a casual cash game or sit and go poker player, 888 Poker’s application can be fun while you are relaxing somewhere away from your computer. I expect that 888 will be making improvements on the client in the future to attract a wider range of players to its mobile application.
