Holdem Manager 2 Adds New Nash Charts
For those who are not familiar with Nash charts, they provide a useful guide on when to push, fold, or call in heads-up play. Since many
Holdem Manager 2 customers find themselves in these situations often, the popular poker tracking software decided to add Nash charts as an available popup.
The Nash chart has the 13 cards from deuce to ace listed across the top and side of the screen. The chart is color-coded for when cards are suited or of different suits. If you are looking for when to shove 7-6 offsuit in heads-up play, you can quickly find it on the Nash chart that pops up while playing and see that this is a shove with 10.7 blinds or more. This isn't to say this is always the optimal play. For example, with 20 blinds, you most likely do not want to shove here and it would be better to raise and fold to a 3bet or just fold pre-flop.
There is a separate chart for calling shoves. Using the same example, you can easily look up 7-6 offsuit and see that you should only be calling a shove if you have 4.0 big blinds or less. If you are not an experienced player, the push-fold charts can come in handy, especially if you don't find yourself heads-up very often and are on a final table where the money jump between first and second place can be significant to your bankroll.
The ROFL chart is another useful popup recently added to
Hold'em Manager 2. This adds other dynamics for decisions other than shoving or folding when you have fewer than 12 big blinds left. The color codes on the chart show when you should raise, call, open jam, limp, raise/fold, and open-fold your cards pre-flop.
The big blinds shown on the chart are effective big blinds. What this means is the lesser of how many blinds you or your opponent has. If you have 26 big blinds, but your opponent only has four big blinds, if following these charts, you should be basing decisions off your opponents' stack and not your own stack.
Keep in mind that these charts are most useful when you do not feel you have an edge on your opponent and when your opponent is also raising and folding ideally as well. While this should help many players, it isn't a magical system that will all of a sudden help you dominate heads-up sit and gos. However, these charts should at least help you understand ranges better and immediately improve your game, especially if you have had trouble playing heads-up in the past.
As with any tool, the Nash and ROFL charts are only as good as you utilize them. If you are already using Holdem Manager, I recommend adding these popups as a guide and see how well they work for you.
