What's in Your HUD with Lenail
We sat down with recreational poker player Lenail from Switzerland to get his thoughts about poker software. Lenail has seen his results improve in the past year-and-a-half since he started taking the game more seriously and using a
HUD.
PokerSoftware: What software do you currently use or have you used in the past?
Lenail: I am running
Poker Copilot on my Macbook Pro since I changed from a PC to a Mac 15 months ago. Previously, I was using
PokerTracker on my old PC. I think both are great products. Poker Copilot's support through its forum is run by a small team and is very fast, dedicated, and efficient. Steve McLeod does a great job. PokerTracker was very good, but I am very happy with
Poker Copilot at the moment.
PokerSoftware: When you switched to a Mac, how come you didn't use PokerTracker since that program has a Mac version?
Lenail: A very close friend already played on a Mac and was happily using Poker Copilot, so I felt it was kind of natural to go with this software.
PokerSoftware: Now that you know PokerTracker is available on the Mac, would you consider switching?
Lenail: PokerTracker is very nice and I have nearly nothing bad to say about it. If I had to move back to Microsoft Windows, I guess I would run PokerTracker. Once you find something nice and efficient, you stay with it.
I also do not want to take time out of my life to work on exporting and re-importing databases from one program to another when I can spend that time playing. Also, I would have to spend more money out of pocket to buy PokerTracker 4 since I was using a previous version. As long as
Poker Copilot does what I need, I see no reason to change.
PokerSoftware: What do you like most about Poker Copilot?
Lenail: What I like most about
Poker Copilot is that it is very smooth like most Mac software.
Poker Copilot is very easy to set up and use. It might not be the greatest tracker with which you can analyze what a villain's stats are at a certain position, but it is easy to use and provided me the tools I need.
PokerSoftware: How is your HUD set up?
Lenail: Here are the stats in my HUD:
VPIP - PFR - AF - Hands
3B - F3B - 4B - F4B
CBET - FCB – BSA (attempt to steal blinds %).
PokerSoftware: How does your HUD help you with your game?
Lenail: It helps me a ton while I am multi-tabling. I learned how to use a HUD 1.5 years ago and it has tremendously improved my results. I feel 2013 was a great year partly due to the introduction of a HUD into my game. There are, of course, pros and cons to using a HUD and I have fallen (as many have) into basing my plays on HUD stats too much, but taking this fact into account, my HUD as helps a lot.
PokerSoftware: Can you give us an example of situations where you used your HUD incorrectly?
Lenail: Good question. While heavy multi-tabling MTTs, one mistake I sometimes make is when I am very short-stacked (8-15bb), I try to find a spot to shove or re-shove. I tend to look at the HUD first and, if I see the crazy-aggro-fish stats I like for that play, I go with it. The mistake is that forget to look at the number of hands played and noticed that when I have too few hands on a villain, the vacuum play there would be to fold.
PokerSoftware: What do you now feel is a good sample size to rely on your HUD in these situations?
Lenail: A good size example is at least 50 to 60 hands. I feel that we can get an approximate opinion about the villain with six to eight orbits. The mistake I mentioned previously was making the move with a history of about 10 to 20 hands.
Thank you Lenail for answering our questions and best of luck on the virtual felts!
