PokerSoftware: What poker software do you use while playing or for review purposes?
Ryan Shaw: I currently am using
PokerTracker 4.
PokerSoftware: How long have you been using PokerTracker 4 and what are some of things you like about the software?
Ryan Shaw: I have been using it for two years now. I think it's great because I can filter situations I have been in and see how I have run. I can look up all of my 3bet hands and go over every single one to make sure I am playing them correctly.
PokerSoftware: What about the software's HUD? How complex is your HUD setup?
Ryan Shaw: I love HUDs! Some people like lots of stats, others like only a few. To be honest, I use a happy medium. But, a person's stats are only as good as the player using them.
PokerSoftware: Which HUD stats are most important to you?
Ryan Shaw: When considering which stats are most important, I feel the essentials begin with VPIP and PFR. I would then include c-bet % and fold to c-bet %. A stat I like to use also is fold to steal %. I think this stat is underrated by many poker players using a HUD.
PokerSoftware: What's it like playing on the New Jersey poker sites when compared to the days of playing poker before Black Friday?
Ryan Shaw: It’s night and day. Before Black Friday, American poker players could play whatever game they wanted at any time of day for almost whatever stake you could think of. The regulated online poker in New Jersey has been great, but there is still so much more that needs to be done.
PokerSoftware: What about the software? Is it as easy to use?
Ryan Shaw: The software is not on the level of
PokerStars or
Full Tilt, that's for sure. I think the software could be 100 times better than it is right now. Players in New Jersey want this.
PokerSoftware: Rumor has it that after long delays PokerStars will be licensed in New Jersey later in the year. Is this a potential game-changer for online poker players in the Garden State?
Ryan Shaw: I think that is going to change regulated online poker for the good! Not only will the other sites need to evolve and compete to stay alive and stay competitive, but they will also need to start listening to their players more. I can't wait for PokerStars.
PokerSoftware: Have you tried mobile poker? If so, how was your experience?
Ryan Shaw: I think they have done a good job with the apps on iOS. They have been listening to players' feedback on this and the apps are becoming a nice way for players to play when they want and where they want.
