What's New at Max Value Software

It has been almost nine months since poker tracking and analysis powerhouses Hold'em Manager and PokerTracker have made waves by joining forces to form Max Value Software.  So far, very little has changed in the eyes of customers.  However, we sat down with Derek Charles, Managing Partner at Max Value Software, to learn about what has been happening behind the scenes since the new company was created.

PokerSoftware:  Can you let us know what has changed for PokerTracker and Hold'em Manager since the merger?

Derek Charles:  The majority of the changes since the merger of PokerTracker and Hold'em Manager have been behind the scenes and not noticeable to our customers or other outside observers.  Thus far, the biggest change has been the close cooperation between the PokerTracker and Hold'em Manager teams.  Through sharing technologies, talents, and knowledge, we believe that we are better positioned to not only survive in the current down market, but to continue to thrive and lead the poker software market.

Externally, there have not been any major changes.  Both PokerTracker and Hold'em Manger customers should have noticed very little, if any, difference.  The only external changes thus far have been minor improvements in site and game compatibility.  The larger improvements and benefits will slowly roll out during the coming months and years as they are ready.

PokerSoftware:  Has everything gone to plan?

Derek Charles:  For the most part, the plan has gone smoothly and as scheduled.  There have definitely been a few minor deviations, although that is to be expected.  Nothing in life goes completely the way that any of us plan it.

At the time of the merger, we had three major objectives:

Remain committed to both PokerTracker and Hold'em Manager while providing regular updates and top-level customer support.

Work behind the scenes to improve efficiencies within the company to allow us to remain competitive within the declining market.

Leverage the unique talents and technologies of both companies to further improve on the quality of our software products.

Thus far, I do not believe anyone can disagree that number one has gone to plan.  Number two is a work in progress and we are well on our way to reaching that goal. Finally, it is much too soon to determine if the third one has or will go to plan and ultimately only our customers will be able to judge that.

PokerSoftware:  What can you share with us about what we can expect to see during the rest of the year at PokerTracker and Hold'em Manager?

Derek Charles:  We will continue to work closely together to build a strong base infrastructure that will be mutually shared and beneficial to both the Hold'em Manager and PokerTracker products.

An example of one of these is shared based infrastructures is hand parsing.  A lot of time and resources are put into ensuring that our products continually support the numerous changes that all of the poker sites and networks frequently make.

We are taking the best algorithms and ideas from both Hold'em Manager and PokerTracker and bringing them into one code base so that only one team needs to manage the process rather than two.  We expect that this type of consolidation will result in a superior product and ultimately free up resources to work on other improvements.

That is just one example of the improvements and efficiencies that we are working on and there are many more.  As each one is ready, we will roll them out independently.  With that said, this is a big job and the rollout process will be over an extended period of time.

PokerSoftware:  Are there any plans for PokerTracker 5 or Hold'em Manager 3?  If so, can you let us know what new features we can expect to see?

Derek Charles:  There are plans for both PokerTracker 5 and Hold'em Manager 3.  While I cannot share specific about either one, I am extremely excited about the new functionality and improvements that we are planned.  I am certain that both PokerTracker 5 and Hold'em Manager 3 will not disappoint and will be solid improvements over their previous versions.
